6th Annual JA Stock Market Challenge Details
JA Stock Market Challenge is the culminating event for our JA Take Stock in Your Future program. This optional fast-paced mock stock market simulation invites students from all over the county to compete against each other to build the largest mock portfolio. It is a morning of fun and frenzy as they simulate 60 days of trading.
· Prior to the event, high school students spend 3-5 class sessions learning about the fundamentals of investing for their futures and basic concepts about how the stock market works
· Students compete in teams of 4 to build the largest mock portfolio
· The Challenge simulate 60 days of trading over two hours
· Teams start with $500,000 in mock stocks and cash
· Competition tentatively scheduled for March 8, 2022
JA Stock Market Challenge 2021
The 5th annual JA Stock Market Challenge took place virtually on March 9th, 2021. 121 students took part in this year’s competition. Students from Clairemont HS, e3 Civic High, Helix Charter HS, San Diego HS and Westview HS were able to participate as part of a class. JA cohort of students was also available to make the program accessible to students who did not have access through their classes. This workshop cohort included 24 students from Canyon Crest Academy, Classical Academy, El Camino HS, Escondido Charter, Grossmont HS, Helix Charter, Mira Mesa HS, and Point Loma HS.
Congratulations to our winning teams! They ended the competition with the highest Return on Investments (ROI). Way to ROCK the Challenge!
1st Place – The Mamacitas, Clairemont HS, 48.33% ROI
2nd Place – Max (SQUARED), Clairemont HS, 41.8% ROI
3rd Place – Care Bears, Mt. Miguel HS, 33.07% ROI
1st Annual National Stock Market Challenge – Three San Diego teams – MAX Squared (Clairemont HS), Care Bears (Mt. Miguel HS) and El Toros (JA cohort/El Camino HS) had the honor of participating in the virtual National Stock Market Challenge on May 19, 2021.
