2019 JA Company Program Student Competition

Congratulations to San Diego's next generation of entrepreneurs! On April 30th, 17 student teams from 5 high schools presented their companies in a "Shark Tank" style competition in an effort to be named "San Diego Student Company of the Year." Junior Achievement's Company Program Competition was an evening of celebration and inspiration, presented by OtterCares Foundation. Thank you to prize sponsor, Banner Bank and scholarship sponsor, EY.

Local professionals volunteering as judges scored the students in four categories; final presentations, trade show pitches, commercials and company reports. This event was the culmination of a 13 week program. With the help of local mentors and the nationally recognized JA Company Program curriculum, high school teams created their “companies”, including identifying a need, ideation and building a business plan.

A special thank you to Keynote Speaker, Bill Keith, CEO and Founder of Perfect Snacks who shared his entrepreneurial journey and personal story of the lessons he learned in starting and running a business. His inspirational message to the students to “not be afraid of failure and take those challenges as opportunities to learn and grow” was truly impactful!

Thank you to JA Student Ambassador, Isabella Roberts for being our amazing Presentation Emcee!

Thank you to all of the amazing judges, mentors and teachers for their time and dedication to support the local student entrepreneurs!

"One thing that I learned from this program with JA is that setting goals for yourself is very crucial. When we accomplished tasks on time it really benefited the overall success of our thriving company.” –Isaac Lustig, student at Canyon Crest Academy and CFO of The College Kit

“It's easy to think about doing something, but when it comes to actually accomplishing something it takes a lot of work and a lot of dedication to get it done.” –Noah Hecht, student at Canyon Crest Academy and CEO of Athlead

Congratulations to the 1st Place, “San Diego Student Company of the Year” winners: Braveio from Torrey Pines High School. Braveio is an App allowing high school students to easily enter competitions in various fields (art, writing, etc.) through an online portfolio. It matches them with competitions they may not have found on their own. It may also be used for scholarships and awards
