Alumna Attributes JA Experience to Providing Her the Confidence Needed to Perform

[Taylor Taylor]Samantha Sevrey, an administrative assistant for Junior Achievement of Mid-Michigan <> in Lansing, shared the story of how one JA alumna recently surprised the audience at a JA Starmakers Breakfast by going off script and talking about how much JA meant to her. "The JA Starmakers Breakfast is an annual fundraising event that takes places each year in Mid-Michigan," Samantha explained. "The event features musical performances by area JA students who also educate guests about Junior Achievement. Guests are then asked to support the work of JA by making a contribution. "One of our performers, Taylor Taylor <> , has been [Taylor Taylor 4]performing at the breakfast for several years. She is a rising musician well known in the area. She performs at many of the local events and has recorded her own album. Before her solo, Taylor Taylor surprised us with an unscripted message about her experience with JA: "I am a senior this year so this will be my final performance at the JA Starmakers Breakfast. I was fortunate to have JA in elementary school and I remember the first time I spoke at this breakfast as a second grader. I spent a lot of time rehearsing including looking people straight in the eye and practicing on the posters in my room. JA has given me confidence which I have put into practice as a performer. I am so grateful to JA, to you and others like you who have made my experience possible." [Taylor Taylor 2]"Taylor?s heartwarming message was great evidence of how important JA is to the young people in our community. It was well received by everyone in attendance, and day of event contributions were much higher than previous years," Samantha concluded.
