JA Company Program Competition Overview:

As the students complete the JA Company Program curriculum and bring their business ventures to fruition, the student company teams are invited to showcase their businesses at the JA San Diego Student Company of the Year Competition. Local business professionals will judge the students on their written annual reports and verbal presentations. . They will compete against other schools across San Diego County to be awarded JA San Diego Student Company of Year. The top San Diego teams are later submitted for inclusion in JA USA’s National Student Leadership Summit. JA USA will choose 15 companies from across the country to compete virtually June 22-24.


2020-2021 Competition Recap:

Thank you to everyone who participated in JA Company Program 2020-2021. Over 300 San Diego County students participated in the program this year, and 120 students, representing 30 student companies, joined us for the JA Company Program Competition! Even through the difficulties of distance learning, these students excelled in their business development!  On April 29th, they presented their start-up businesses to a panel of local business leaders via Zoom. We couldn’t be more proud of these students! All of the presentations were fantastic and professional!

2020-2021 San Diego JA Company Program Competition Winners:

  • 1st Place – JA San Diego Student Company of the Year – College Cabinet, Torrey Pines HS - College Cabinet’s mission is to help all college applicants achieve success by making the college application process more centralized, streamlined, and affordable.

  • 2nd Place - The Gnarly Van, Canyon Crest Academy – Gnarly Van is bringing skateboard repair to the skate park.

  • 3rd Place – Educraft, Canyon Crest Academy - Educraft strives to inform children about social issues through art kits that grant a creativity-provoking and enjoyable experience.

  • Social Change Maker – Safe Talk, e3 Civic High – Safe Talk aims to alleviate tension between teachers and students to a create a more inclusive school culture.

  • Most Innovative Idea – We had a tie in this category:

    • The Gnarly Van, Canyon Crest Academy – Gnarly Van is bringing skateboard repair to the skate park
    • Paw Companion, e3 Civic High – Paw Companion is a Tinder app for pets, simplifying pet adoption

JA National Student Leadership Summit Finalist – Reloved Apparel, Canyon Crest Academy – Reloved Apparel sells style bundles consisting of thrifted clothing and accessories.  As one of 15 student company finalists across the US, they will virtually compete for the top honor of JA USA Student Company of the Year June 22-24, 2021!  Wish them luck!
