5. Virtual Opportunities for Volunteers

Thank you for your interest in volunteering virtually with JA San Diego. Getting involved is simple, and your volunteer support is as important as ever to ensure our young people are real-world ready!

View the volunteer opportunities below and register for a 30 minute virtual volunteer training, where will provide you with everything you need to successfully support our students in online learning.

Volunteer Opportunities:

  • Share your JA Story - Record a (3-5 minute) video of yourself answering the following questions and inspiring young people to dream for brighter futures. Tell us a little bit about what you do for a living. What most influenced you to choose that career? If there's one piece of advice you could give to a young person about achieving their dreams, what would it be? This is perfect for all JA volunteers.

  • Subject Matter Expert - Record (5-10 minute) videos of yourself explaining in detail topics within Financial Literacy, Work-readiness and Entrepreneurship.
    • Mission Fed JA Finance Park - topics include: budgeting, income, investing, insurance, spending habits and credit scores among others. This is perfect for for volunteers from financial institutions and/or with banking experience.
    • JA Middle/High School Programs - topics include: creating a successful sales pitch, knowing your customer, corporate social responsibility, creating an elevator sales pitch, building your LinkedIn presence, the 4 P's of marketing (product, price, place and promotion) and more!
  • Live Workshops - Volunteers provide their expertise and real-world experience by joining our JA Staff during live virtual workshops with San Diego Students. The workshop topics include financial literacy, work-readiness, and entrepreneurship. Workshop dates and times vary, after online training, you will be matched to a workshop that fits into your schedule. Space is limited for workshop opportunities. The typical time commitment is 60-90 minutes.

  • Ambassador Program Mentor - Be a mentor to a high-school student through the Spring 2021 JA Ambassador Program. Your role as a mentor is to provide real-world experience tied to your knowledge of the local San Diego economy, personal finances, career pathways and work-readiness. Walk alongside our high school participants as they begin to build the foundation of skills to help them thrive in San Diego’s economy and be their connector to industry and access to San Diego’s career pipelines. The time commitment will include 5-7 30-minute Zoom interactions over the course of our 10-week virtual program.

  • Host a Virtual Career Panel - Share your company with tomorrow’s workforce by hosting a JA Virtual Career Panel. These events introduce students to local industry leaders and the variety of careers available at these companies.  They develop a new perspective about what their career paths may look like and the steps needed to reach their goals.  The typical event lasts about 1 hour, and in addition to a career panel of 3-4 employees, may include short departmental overviews, a virtual tour and/or student activity.  JA will be there to help you plan and to support the event.
